The Spins.

Collective members Julian, Chelsea, Joel and Barrett, as well as Catayst pal ( and brililant sound designer of "Trestle") Bennett are all working together on a world premier at Out of Box Theatre.

Julian Verner directs The Spins, a play with music by local writer and musician Sara Crawford, which weaves a haunting tale of unimaginable loss. Musician Lynn (Kathrine Barnes) nurses wounds both old and new- the death of her brother Riley and the more recent loss of love. Unable to escape even in her sleep, Lynn's grief plays out on two planes of existence. As her best friend Melissa (Chelsea Steverson) tries to intervene in reality, Dream Lynn (Jessie Kuipers) is imprisoned with the uncomfortable memories that Lynn cannot process. Her drunken, emotional vertigo is underscored throughout by the spinning of a record on a turntable, one of her only links back to her brother. Playwright Sara Crawford is no stranger to the musical world herself, having been voted Best Local Songwriter in 2010 and Best Local Vocalist in 2011 (Creative Loafing). She credits Jeff Buckley's album Grace (1994) for having been a huge inspiration in the writing of The Spins. The Spins was a finalist in the 2011 Playwriting Contest from The Essential Theatre, and this production will be the world premiere, part of Out of Box Theatre's commitment to producing excellent locally-written plays. The Spins also features performances by Barrett Doyle, Jeremy Crawford, and Bennett Walton. Crawford's poetry has appeared in such publications as Ceremony and Illogical Muse, and her play The Snow Globe was published via YouthPlays in 2013. She is the author of the upcoming young adult series The Muse Chronicles, and frequently blogs for sites like Pick the Brain, LifeHack, and HelloGiggles. The Spins runs January 22-31, 2015, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8PM and Sunday matinees at 3PM. Out of Box Theatre is located in the Artisan Resource Center at 585 Cobb Parkway South, Marietta, GA 30060. Tickets are $17-$25 and can be purchased online at www.outofboxtheatre.com or by calling the box office at 678-653-4605.
